Color: Component of emotion

Have you ever realize the psychological effects of color in your home? Are there colors that affect your emotion?  Can certain colors make you cheerful and powerful, and others make you calm and relaxed? Read on for the answers to these questions, and then take a look at your own home!

Visible Light For Humans

  • There are 7 different colors starting from (Violet-Red) which the human eye can see.
  • We called that a visible spectrum. The region beyond red is called infrared and the region beyond violet is called Ultraviolet.
  • Both cannot be read by human eyes. We may see the reflection from some object in those lights forex: Infrared camera, which reads in dark. And eyes or teeth shining or sparkling in UV light.
  • Black and White are actually not colors, white is the combination of all the colors specified above and black is the absence of color or light.
  • The combination of primary colors give you secondary color Red+Blue =  Violet
  • Secondary colors are diagonally opposite to primary colors which are next to each other are called Harmony color.
  • The colors which are diagonally opposite on the color wheel are Contrasting color.

 Color Wheel

  • Sir Isaac Newton made the first circular diagram of colors in 1666.
  • Shows all these 7 colors available in nature with its different shade.
  • Colour wheel as 3 primary colors namely red, yellow, blue.
  • The reason they are called primary is that they cannot be obtained by mixing any other color.

Combinations of color

  • Contrasting Red and green Yellow and Violet, Blue and orange.
  • Harmonious colors are most popular as they are easily acceptable.
  • Contrasting colors on  the other hand requires a lot of courage or maturity to handle them.

TERTIARY COLOURS

Colors which we get with the combination of Primary and Secondary are Tertiary colors for Red-Violet, Yellow-Orange, Violet-Blue, C=Colours.
                                                    PASTELS                              EARTHY
                                                    TINTS                                  SHADES
                                                 (C+WHITE)                           (C+SHADE)

TINTS

(PASTELS) When we add white in any Pure color (Chroma).
We get a tint of that color Ex: Pink, Sky Blue, Cream, Beige, Pista, Light green is pastel shade.
Pastel shade is mostly used in residential interiors or every day our casual wear.

TONES

When we add grey in any pure color we get tones of that color in short we make consistency very thin.

SHADES

When you add black in any pure color (chroma) you get shades.
For Ex: Military green or brown or Red earth, Terracotta , navy blue.
These colors are also called as Earthy colors because they resemble the color of earth in nature.

Acromatic Harmony

  •  All tints are harmonious to each other or all shades or earthy color is are harmonious to each other.

  • In this color scheme chroma is not important it is White and Black that will create the contrast. Red and green may be opposite on the color wheel  but pastel of red and green will look harmonious, because of the amount of white present in it.

  • Similarly red and green being the contrasting amount of grey and black present in them will make them harmonious

  • Ex. Terracotta, Military green.

Acromatic Contrast

  •  In this color scheme its black or white that creates contrast, not the chroma or color.

  • Ex: Light pink and dark maroon color or color will give contrast even both belong to the red family. Similarly light green or pasta and military green will give you contrast in spite of belonging to a green family.

Monochromatic

As the name suggests Mono = One Chrome= Colour it are shades, tints and tones only one color.

Monochromatic colors are all colors (tones, shades, and shades) of a single color. Monochromatic color schemes are derived from a single base hue and expanded using the colors, colors, and shades.
