History Of Scandinavian Style

Scandinavian design is a design movement that emerged in the early 20th century and subsequently flourished in the 1950s throughout the five Nordic countries of Norway, Sweden,  Denmark, Finland, and Iceland. The Scandinavian the word comes from Scandinavia is a sub-region in Northern Europe that refers to the countries which make the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe. These countries are Denmark, Norway, and Sweden with two more Nordic countries are Finland & Iceland because of their linguistic, historical, and cultural connections.

The term Scandinavian design originated from a design show with the same name as “Scandinavian Design” that traveled through the United States and Canada between 1954 and 1957, before that, the design was not so popular in the design world. And also the Brooklyn Museum organized its “Design in Scandinavia” show in 1954 in America, which played an important role to famous the style with its design principles throughout America & Europe.

The reason behind the birth of The Scandinavian design style was the long, harsh winters with a few hours of daylight kept people indoors for many months. Because of these geographical and climatic conditions the style came into the frame by some of the famous Scandinavian designers who created the golden era of Scandinavian design from the 1930s to the 1970s.
