Though both contribute significantly to the aesthetic, appearance, feel, and quality of the home, do you know what type of plywood they are? What distinguishes them? and what are the applications for them? If not, continue reading. This blog exists to provide answers to all of your unresolved questions!

BWP – Boiling Water Proof Plywood

It is a marine grade plywood that is commonly used in the construction of furniture that will be exposed to water and moisture for an extended period of time. This type of plywood, when treated for anti-warp qualities, can also be dimensionally stable in both dry and wet environments for the duration of its life. Because it can handle humidity and moisture for an extended amount of time without contact with people, it is utilised in areas where water interaction is expected, such as the kitchen and bathroom. It works well in the kitchen for cabinets, utility, under-basin storage, and even its rooftops, loft, and tall units, which have a high likelihood of steam and water contact. It can be used to construct wall cabinets and storage units in the bathroom.

BWP plywood is extremely robust and can resist normal wear and tear for many years. When chemically treated with chosen preservatives, it also exhibits good resistance to termites and vermin. The ISI specification number – IS:710 – easily identifies genuine marine grade BWP Plywood. This value indicates that the plywood can survive 72 hours of boiling water.

BWR – Boiling Water Resistant Plywood

As the name implies, this type of plywood is very resistant to water and humidity. It is also an exterior grade plywood, making it suitable for semi-outdoor and outdoor use. Because of its waterproof and weather-proof features, it is ideal for creating outdoor furniture such as lawn chairs, garden tables, outdoor swings, and so on, which are subjected to extreme climatic conditions. It is also commonly used to suit the needs of furniture inside the home, such as those located on the terrace, balcony, or any other location that experiences considerable weather differences.

BWR Plywood is more water resistant than moisture-resistant plywood (MR plywood). It is also termite proof plywood, making it perfect for use in locations where pests and termites are a major concern. IS:303 is the ISI specification number for Commercial BWR grade plywood.

What are their application areas?

BWP Plywood: It may be used to make outdoor furniture such as lawn chairs, garden tables, outdoor swings, and patio seats, as well as terrace and balcony furniture and wooden storage units.

BWR Plywood: It can be used to make kitchen cabinets and furniture. This type of plywood is frequently used in the construction of bathroom wall units and storage cabinets.

BWP and BWR Plywood are both incredibly versatile materials that can be utilised for a variety of interior and exterior applications. This plywood is appropriate for water-prone parts of your home where you cannot prevent water from seeping in. The two considerations that will eventually determine which one you choose are the sort of furniture required and your budget.

The following are some of the most important characteristics of plywood.

  • BWP plywood has been carefully prepared to withstand a high-moisture environment.
  • The plywood obtains its anti-warp features from a special stress-relieving treatment, which keeps it dimensionally stable in both dry and wet situations throughout its life.
  • It is chemically treated with selected preservatives to keep termites and insects out.
  • Because of its strong resistance to boiling water, dampness, dry heat, and rough weather and climatic conditions, it is ideal for use in boat and ship construction. It is usually impossible to get the top quality plywood for your home unless you understand and can distinguish between the various types of Plywood grades.

The following are the key characteristics of BWR plywood.

  • BWR plywood, being an external plywood grade, can be utilised indoors, outdoors, and semi-outdoors in humid environments.
  • The waterproofing properties of BWR plywood are due to the use of A grade phenolic resins or phenol formaldehyde adhesive in its manufacture.
  • It is more water resistant than interior grade MR or moisture-resistant plywood. As a result, it is commonly used to suit the needs of home furnishings where the plywood may be exposed to water, such as kitchen cabinets and kitchen chairs.
  • BWR plywood features no warps, very strong bonding, and no surface core gaps
